Home Visits

Please call by 10am if you require our home visiting service which is dependent on clinical need

GP Consultations

GP consultations are usually ten minutes in duration but should you consider a longer appointment necessary then please advise a Patient Service Advisor upon booking your appointment.

Phlebotomy (blood test appointment)

You won’t have to do anything to prepare for most blood tests. Some require you to fast, or not eat, for 8-12 hours ahead of time. Your doctor should give you instructions before you come in. If you’re having blood drawn for tests, you may need to fill one or more test tubes. The process usually takes just a few minutes.

Cervical Screening (Smear Test)

Cervical screening checks the health of your cervix. The cervix is the opening to your womb from your vagina and it is not a test for cancer, it’s a test to help prevent cancer. Those with a cervix aged 25 to 64 are invited by letter and during the screening appointment, a small sample of cells will be taken from your cervix. The sample is checked for types of human papillomavirus (HPV) that can cause changes to the cells of your cervix. If these types of HPV are not found, you do not need any further tests. If these types of HPV are found then they can be treated before they turn into cancer.

Asthma Review

Asthma is a common lung condition that causes occasional breathing difficulties. It affects people of all ages and often starts in childhood, although it can also develop for the first time in adults. There’s currently no cure, but during your annual asthma review, one of our clinicians will help explore simple treatments that can help keep the symptoms under control so it does not have a big impact on your life.

Diabetes Review

Diabetes is a condition that causes a person’s blood sugar level to become too high. There are 2 main types of diabetes, type 1 diabetes – where the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the cells that produce insulin and type 2 diabetes – where the body does not produce enough insulin, or the body’s cells do not react to insulin. Type 2 diabetes is far more common than type 1. In the UK, around 90% of all adults with diabetes have type 2. During your diabetes review one of our clinicians will see how well managed you condition is and make any dietary recommendations or medication changes.

Childhood Immunisation

Childhood immunisations protect you and your child from many serious and potentially deadly diseases alongside protecting other people in your community – by helping to stop diseases spreading to people who cannot have vaccines. They can sometimes cause mild side effects that will not last long – some children may feel a bit unwell and have a sore arm for 2 or 3 days but they help reduce or even get rid of some diseases – if enough people are vaccinated.

Shingles Vaccinations

Shingles makes your skin painful for weeks after the rash has gone, but it usually settles over time. You cannot spread shingles to others but people who have not had chickenpox before could catch chickenpox from you and this is because shingles is caused by the chickenpox virus. Patients over 70 are called to be vaccinated at the practice.

Anticoagulation Monitoring (Warfarin)

Anticoagulants are medicines that help prevent blood clots. They’re given to people at a high risk of getting clots, to reduce their chances of developing serious conditions such as strokes and heart attacks. A blood clot can stop blood flowing to organs such as the brain, heart or lungs. Anticoagulants work by interrupting the process involved in the formation of blood clots. They’re sometimes called “blood-thinning” medicines, although they don’t actually make the blood thinner. During your appointment one of our clinicians will review your dosing and make any adjustments as required.

COPD Review

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the name for a group of lung conditions that cause breathing difficulties. It includes emphysema (damage to the air sacs in the lungs) and chronic bronchitis (long-term inflammation of the airways) COPD is a common condition that mainly affects middle-aged or older adults who smoke. Many people do not realise they have it. The breathing problems tend to get gradually worse over time and can limit your normal activities, although treatment can help keep the condition under control.

Flu Vaccination

Flu vaccination is available every year on the NHS to help protect adults and children at risk of flu and its complications. Flu can be unpleasant, but if you’re otherwise healthy, it’ll usually clear up on its own within a week. However, it can be dangerous and sometime fatal for anyone aged 65 and over, pregnant women and children and adults with an underlying health condition (such as long-term heart or respiratory disease). Children and adults with weakened immune systems are also at higher risk of complications.

Pneumococcal Vaccine

The pneumococcal vaccine protects against serious and potentially fatal pneumococcal infections. It’s also known as the pneumonia vaccine. Pneumococcal infections are caused by the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae and can lead to pneumonia, septicaemia (a kind of blood poisoning) and meningitis. At their worst, they can cause permanent brain damage, or even kill and those at higher risk are babies, adults aged 65 or over and children and adults with certain long-term health conditions, such as a serious heart or kidney condition.

Minor Surgery

Minor skin surgery is a procedure usually carried out under a local anaesthetic to treat benign or malignant skin lesions. These are routine office based procedures which may or may not involve suturing. The procedure that we can arrange to be carried out include, curettage or scraping of the skin shave biopsies, punch or incisional biopsies, excision biopsies and subcision. Excluding subcision, all the above procedures involve taking a piece of skin through different methods such as scraping, shaving or cutting out a piece of skin.

Family Planning

Family planning is a wide ranging service that includes long-acting reversible contraception, such as the implant or intra uterine device (IUD), hormonal contraception, such the pill or the Depo Provera injection. Fertility awareness also forms part of this service.

Mental Health Service

Talking therapies are psychological treatments for mental and emotional problems like stress, anxiety and depression. There are lots of different types of talking therapy, but they all involve working with a trained therapist. This may be one-to-one, in a group, online, over the phone, with your family, or with your partner. Our therapist helps you find answers to the problems you’re having. For some problems and conditions, one type of talking therapy may be better than another because different talking therapies also suit different people.

Antenatal Care

Antenatal care is the care you get from health professionals during your pregnancy and it’s sometimes called pregnancy care or maternity care. Our midwife will check the health of you and your baby and give you useful information to help you have a healthy pregnancy, including advice about healthy eating and exercise. You will be offered options and choices for your care during pregnancy, labour and birth, and be able to ask any questions.

NHS Health Check

The NHS Health Check is a health check-up for adults in England aged 40 to 74. It’s designed to spot early signs of stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes or dementia. As we get older, we have a higher risk of developing one of these conditions. An NHS Health Check helps find ways to lower this risk.

Chronic Kidney Disease Review

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is defined by persistent urine abnormalities, structural abnormalities or impaired excretory renal function suggestive of a loss of functional nephrons. The majority of patients with CKD are at risk of accelerated cardiovascular disease and death. Risk factors for the development and progression of CKD include low nephron number at birth, nephron loss due to increasing age and acute or chronic kidney injuries caused by toxic exposures or diseases. During your appointment, one of our clinicians will assess your package of care.

Chronic Heart Disease Review

Heart disease is the nation’s leading cause of death. Three health-related behaviours such as tobacco use, lack of physical activity, and poor nutrition contribute markedly to heart disease. Modifying such behaviour is critical for both preventing and controlling heart disease and during your annual review, one of our clinicians will track your progress and package of care to improve your quality of life.

End of Life Care

The practice provides over 75 health checks because we consider you a vulnerable group. It is an unfortunate reality that we will all become frailer as we mature in age and the practice therefore reaches out to patients to see if anything can be put in place to make life that little bit easier for you.

Over 75 Health Check

Carer Support

Carers are often unheard heroes and we are therefore committed to asking how you’re coping. Our questions are designed to assess the effects on your physical and mental health, work, free time and relationships. If it is mutually decided that you would benefit from some additional help, then one of our staff will go through a menu of various local support packages. The practice is here to help you help them.
